After three decades behind the brush, here is the honest answer I give every woman who asks: quality matters, but not the label. A $60 foundation in the wrong shade will always lose to a well-chosen $20 one. What you are really paying for in a quality product is the formula: how it sits on skin, how it wears through a long day, and what it does to your face after you take it off. Those four things are where the money shows.
Quality formulas blend. That is the whole secret. They give you working time before they set, they layer without caking, and they do not grab onto dry patches. When my clients tell me their makeup "never looks like it does in the tutorial," the product is usually fighting them. Good tools and good formulas cooperate.
Your face is the most delicate skin you own, and it wears makeup for hours at a time. Better products earn their price with cleaner ingredient lists, real dermatological testing, and formulas that will not clog or inflame. If your makeup causes the breakouts you are buying more makeup to cover, you are on a treadmill. Step off it.
